A Day in The Trenches
Everyday in the trenches soldiers were ordered to "stand to" on the firing steps in anticipation of a sudden enemy attack on their trench. Throughout the day when soldiers were not battling they would be repairing the sandbags around the trench and duckboards in the trenches. On a regular basis the enemy would unleash gas attacks, artillery strikes, and sniper fire. Everyday was a struggle for soldiers, they would have to deal with all these things and still put up with all the disgusting smells of the trenches and sometimes knee deep mud, it was even worse for soldiers that were suffering from shellshock, or diseases.
